Weeks 4-8: 05 january - 7 february 2016: electricity, electricity... and a first view of our future kitchen --- Semaines 4-8 : 05 janvier – 7 février 2016: électricité, électricité… et une première idée de notre future cuisine

Since we continued changing the electricity of the ground floor, you won't have pictures of electric cables... Except these! We placed all the cables into the ceilings to the main board. Francis planned a month of work, and it's done!
Voici quelques photos du remplacement des câbles électriques, qui vont être cachés dans les faux-plafonds. Francis a prévu un mois de travail… et c’était fait !

                           

Meanwhile, we decided to go to kitchen stores: let's draw the kitchen!
FYI: we will open the wall between the living room and kitchen, and do the same with the wall between the kitchen and dinner room.
Entre temps, nous avons décidé de commencer à faire dessiner notre cuisine !

Pour information: nous allons ouvrir les murs entre le salon et la cuisine, et faire de même avec le mur entre la cuisine et la salle à manger.

This is the result / Voici le résultat:

All the windows and doors of the ground and first floor will be changed. We will change the color of the frames (from white to a softer cream white) and change the model to a lattice pattern.

Les fenêtres et la porte d’entrée vont être changées au rez-de-chaussée et au premier étage. La couleur des châssis sera le blanc et les fenêtres recevront des croisillons.

Week 3: 29th decembre 2015 - 04 january 2016 (Happy New Year!) --- Semaine 3 : 29 décembre 2015 – 04 janvier 2016 (Bonne année !)

During this week, we did three main jobs: cleaning the attic a first time, removing the security bars in front of the back windows (garden side) and starting to replace the entire electric system of the house...
We have a surface of approximately 90 m² in the attic. Half of the floor is created with wooden planks, the other half is made of...vaults!
Sadly enough, I don't find pictures of all the attic before it was cleaned, but simply imagine this place full of stuff, from bricks to wood, paper work from the old bank office, a chair and old suitcases!
Cette semaine, trois travaux ont été principalement effectués : le premier rangement du grenier, retirer les barrières de sécurité devant les fenêtres de la future cuisine (côté jardin) et le début du remplacement du système électrique de l’habitation.

Nous disposons approximativement de 90m² au grenier. La moitié est revêtu d’un vieux plancher, et l’autre moitié dispose de voussettes.
Malheureusement, je n’ai pas retrouvé d’images avant le rangement, mais il suffit d’imaginer ce lieu… remplie de vieilles affaires, allant du bois, au dossiers bancaires, des chaises, des valises,…

After mainly Esra cleaned the entire surface, we decided to keep some furniture in quiet bad shape. In a later stage, we'll try to DIY something out of it...
Après qu’Esra principalement a nettoyé le grenier nous avons décidé de garder certains objet que nous allons remettre sur pied en mode DIY, mais c’est pour plus tard…

Since the ground floor was used as a bank, the windows were bulletproof and the ones at the yard side were protected by metal bars. The disc grinder being our best friend, he helped us removing them.
Vu que le rez-de-chaussée était une banque, les vitres sont blindées et des barres métalliques ont étés munies devant les vitres arrières. La disqueuse est devenue notre meilleure amie pour les retirer.

   

     

The end of week 3 is very comparable to the entire month of January: replacing the entire electric system. Francis being an electrician, he's like a magician of electricity!

After removing all the cables, we started removing the electric board of the bank since we want to move it in another room. We bought some plaster boards and the metal sections to attach the boards on, we started creating the first wall of the future office space to attach the new main electric board on it. We bought some 200 meters of new cables, differentials and used the fuses from the bank fuse box and this job will be done normally around the end of January. Wait and see!

La fin de la troisième semaine était comparable au mois de janvier entier : remplacer le système électrique entier. Francis étant électricien, c’est le magicien de l’électricité !

Après avoir retiré les câbles, nous avons commencé par retirer le panneau de fusibles de la banque dans une autre pièce. On a monté une plaque de plâtre pour fixer le nouveau tableau électrique, et nous en avons profité pour également prolonger la structure métallique qui réceptionne la plaque, car cela deviendra notre futur hall d’entrée. Nous avons acheté 200 mètres de câbles triphasé, et nous espérons avoir terminé le boulot en janvier. Wait and see !

                                         

Week/semaine 2 (19-28 decembre 2015)

the second week of our works were coupled to our moving out of the previous apartment in Brussels, and Christmas of course!

We still used time to continue working in the bank...

The main jobs consisted of removing the bank parts. Every part was bulletproof - doors, frames, separations and windows - so we decided to cut everything with the disc grinder, and dismantle the windows from the frames. 
La deuxième semaine des travaux a été accouplée à notre déménagement de notre petit appartement à Bruxelles, et Joyeux Noël!
Le travail principal de la semaine a été de retirer les parties de l'ancienne banque. Tout était blindé - portes, châssis, séparations et fenêtres - donc tout a été disqué, c'est bien plus simple!

And this is the result! We are going to use this big space to make an office space (16 m²), an entrance hall (8 m²) and the space on the back of the picture will be our living room (22 m²). 

Having some holidays, and choosing a classic mansion style for our house, we visited some ceramic shops since we would like to apply this tiles for the entrance hall (label: Perondas Ceramica) :

Et voici le résultat! Nous allons utiliser ce grand espace pour y créer un bureau (16m²), un hall d'entrée (8m²) et l'espace arrière deviendra le salon (22 m²).

Ayant quelques jours de vacance, et voulant créer un style "maison de maître", nous avons visité quelques magasins de carrelages et nous allons probablement utiliser ce carrelage pour le hall d'entrée (marque: Perondas Ceramicas)

Since we grinded in the front rooms, we had to take the carpets in the room used as bank manager room away... Our futur kitchen! 

Surprise! Under the ugly old carpet, a beautiful tile display was discovered dating from the original house from the 1900's (before it was transformed in bank office). Since this could give a certain charm to the kitchen, Jeremy decided to clean a a square of 9 tiles to see the condition of them.

The result was surprisingly good! Just using some soap and a metal sponge. Look for yourself :-)

Vu qu'on a disqué, on a dû retirer les tapis de sol anciennement utilisés comme bureau du responsable de la banque... notre future cuisine!

Surprise! sous cet horrible tapis nous avons découvert un magnifique carrelage de la maison avant la modification en banque. Vu que cela pourra avoir un charme certain, Jeremy a décidé de nettoyé un carré de 9 carrelages pour voir la condition générale.

Le résultat était plutôt bon! Un peu d'eau, de savon et une éponge métallique. Voyez vous-même :-)

Week 1 (11 — 18 December)

The first thing Jeremy and Francis did was to change the lock and to have a request for the Brico card. And also a notebook to mark all the steps. 
La première chose a été de changer la serrure de la porte d'entrée et d'obtenir une carte Brico! Francis a également investi dans un cahier pour y décrirer chaque étape des travaux par jour.

Then Francis started to take out the suspended ceiling from light metal in future living room, future office and future kitchen. It was quite easy to take them out. He didn't use any tools, he just pulled them out. In 3 days all of them were gone.
Ensuite, Francis a commencer a retirer les faux plafonds en lattes métalliques  dans notre future salon, bureau et cuisine. Cela s'enlève relativement facilement. Aucun outil a été nécessaire, il suffisait de tirer dessus. En trois jours, tout était parti!

The second day Jeremy also joined to his dad and they started to take out all the desks. However, it was very challenging contrary to expectations. The glasses and also all the desks were reinforced. To get rid of the whole desks they had to cut everything by an angle grinder with a disc specific to metal and even forced the aluminum sticks with crowbar to dismantle the whole thing.
La deuxième journée a été le commencement de la suppression des bureaux de banque. Tout est blindé donc la plus grande partie a été disqué.

Also, we had so many massive cables to source the all the electricity of the bank. Francis took all of them out. Apparently we have electricity capacity enough for 5 houses!!!
Banque oblige, l'installation électrique était disons... conséquente! Après inspection par le distributeur d'énergie, nous avons la capacité électrique pour 5 foyers!

We had also air conditioning and we sold it out for 100 euros. The guy came and dismantle it. It was a good way of get rid of it.
Nous disposions également d'un système d'air conditionné, que nous avons revendu pour la modique somme de 100 euros. Bon débarras!

Hello everyone!
Bonjour tout le monde!

After long researches and visits, my future husband and me became the today's bank owners and hopefully tomorrow's house owners. We started our house hunt in the beginning of 2015 and after 9 months we finally found our future niche situated in a little cute town in Villers-la-Ville as a part of our life project. 
Après de longues recherches et visites, nous sommes devenus propriétaires d'une banque, que nous allons transformer en habitation. Après 9 mois de recherche, nous avons enfin notre future nid dans la commune de Villers-la-Ville.

During the decision process we heard often "Wow there is too much work to do!" or "I wouldn't even dare it!" and so on... It is true that there is too much work to do but what they didn't know was that we had a great mentor who helps and directs us very well always with a good humor.  And also a tactful mother in law who opened the doors of their house for us during the working period. And finally my parents who never deny anything to us and give full support for our life project!!! 
I would like to thank them for a big big time!
Nous sommes conscient du boulot à effectuer... mais nous avons un mentor super qui nous aide dans la joie et la bonne humeur! Et une belle-mère qui nous a accueilli le temps des travaux. terminons les remerciements envers me parents qui nous soutiennent également.

We have been working on our project since the 11th December (the day after we became the official owners!!!)
